Lanterns Episode 4 Trailer Teases John Stewart’s Big Moment
The biggest development in the Lanterns Episode 4 Trailer is John’s long-awaited transformation into a Green Lantern. The preview confirms that John is finally set to receive his own Green Lantern ring.However, the moment comes with a major complication.
John’s role appears to be directly connected to Hal’s future, creating a conflict between the two characters just as their partnership begins to break down.

Sinestro Has a Warning for Hal
Sinestro appears to be manipulating Hal from behind the scenes. In the Lanterns Episode 4 Trailer, Sinestro describes John as “a contingency plan, a backup.” Hal rejects that idea, but Sinestro’s next warning is far more disturbing.
He tells Hal:
“You really will need to kill John Stewart.”
The statement immediately raises the stakes between the two Lanterns. It also suggests that Sinestro knows something about John’s purpose that Hal has yet to understand.
John Was Trained for the Ring
Episode 3 revealed that John’s path toward becoming a Green Lantern began long before he ever encountered the Corps. His parents deliberately prepared him for the possibility that he could one day become a ring-bearer.
John Stewart Sr. previously encountered Abin Sur’s ring but admitted that he was too afraid to accept the responsibility. Bernadette Stewart later learned from a Guardian that eligibility for the ring can run through genetics. That revelation changed how John’s family viewed his future.
His Parents Pushed Him to Overcome Fear
John’s parents subjected him to increasingly dangerous exercises designed to help him overcome fear. One particularly extreme exercise involved his father shooting an apple from his head. John later repeated the exercise with his mother serving as the target. The training was designed to prepare him for the kind of courage required to wield a Green Lantern ring. His military career further strengthened those abilities.
John Stewart’s Military Background Matters
Before joining the Green Lantern story, John served as a Marine sergeant major. He became known as a patient and highly skilled sniper, abilities that made him particularly valuable in dangerous situations. However, Hal’s interference ultimately disrupted John’s months-long assignment. The fallout contributed to John’s discharge and further complicated their already difficult relationship.
Hal Has a Problem With John’s New Role
Episode 3 ended with an important revelation. A Guardian told John that his actual assignment is to replace Hal. The veteran Lantern, however, remains unaware of the plan. That changed when Hal confronted John and made his position clear. Hal told John that he would only get the ring “over my dead body.” The confrontation sets up a major conflict heading into Episode 4.
Is Sinestro Turning Hal Against John?
