DC Studios is reportedly moving forward with a Batman Spin-Off, even as the franchise faces growing questions about its long-term future. According to a new report, the studio continues to prioritize a movie centered on Bane and Deathstroke despite recent box office challenges.
Although the project is still in its early stages, the report suggests that DC leadership remains committed to expanding the franchise. Meanwhile, several other DC projects continue to move through development.
Batman Spin-Off Reportedly Remains a Priority for DC Studios
According to TheWrap, DC Studios is still prioritizing a Batman Spin-Off featuring Bane and Deathstroke. However, the project is reportedly still in early development. As of now, neither a director nor any cast members have been attached.
Even so, the report indicates that the studio has not changed course. Instead, it continues to develop the film alongside several other major DC projects.
This update arrives shortly after Supergirl opened in theaters with a reported $38 million domestic opening weekend against a reported $170 million production budget. Industry insiders believe the film may need around $315 million worldwide to become profitable.
Batman Spin-Off Is Part of DC Studios’ Long-Term Strategy
Despite the recent box office performance, DC Studios leadership has expressed confidence in its overall direction.
Responding to Supergirl’s theatrical results, DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran said:
“While Supergirl didn’t meet our box office expectations, it’s just one component of a broader, long-term strategy at DC Studios that we remain confident in.”
Furthermore, a Warner Bros. insider reportedly emphasized that company leadership remains committed to a decade-long plan for the DC franchise.
As a result, the reported Batman Spin-Off continues to be viewed as part of that larger strategy rather than a reaction to recent box office numbers.
Multiple DC Projects Continue Moving Forward
In addition to the reported Batman Spin-Off, several other DC productions remain in development.
These projects include:
- Man of Tomorrow, which James Gunn is currently developing as his follow-up to last year’s Superman starring David Corenswet.
- Clayface, directed by James Watkins, which is scheduled to arrive in theaters this autumn.
- HBO’s Lanterns, starring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre with Damon Lindelof involved, which is expected to debut in August.
- Creature Commandos Season 2, which is continuing development.
- Dynamic Duo, which recently unveiled its first footage during the Annecy Animation Film Festival.
- The Brave and the Bold, although the report notes that the project has reportedly remained stalled since its 2023 announcement.
Therefore, DC Studios appears to be maintaining a broad development slate despite recent challenges.
Questions Continue to Surround the DCU’s Future
Even with multiple projects progressing, uncertainty reportedly remains around the franchise’s long-term direction.
According to the report, discussions surrounding the proposed Paramount–Warner Bros. Discovery merger have raised additional questions about the future of the DCU.
One DC insider reportedly offered a critical assessment of the current situation, saying:
“All this is, is a Gunn and Safran production deal. It’s not a brand.”
Nevertheless, DC leadership reportedly remains focused on executing its long-term roadmap while continuing development on key projects, including the Batman Spin-Off.
Although the Batman Spin-Off is still in the early stages of development, reports suggest that DC Studios continues to view it as an important part of its future slate. At the same time, the studio is moving ahead with multiple films and television projects despite recent box office setbacks.
For now, fans will have to wait for official announcements regarding casting, directors, and production timelines. Until then, the reported Bane and Deathstroke project remains one of the more intriguing developments in DC’s evolving future.
